Threat Level

Threat Level is a dynamic difficulty scaling system that boosts players and enemies alike based on the amount of players and their EGO Rating within an area of an event.

Threat Level Boosts

If you enter an encounter with a Threat Level that has a Min Player Rating higher than your current EGO Rating, you will be temporarily boosted to the Min Player Rating value. If the Threat Level of an encounter decreases, so will the boost to the next appropriate level.

As well as the player boost, all enemies are boosted or debuffed as appropriate between the Min Enemy Rating and Max Enemy Rating. With the exception of threat level 2, player min rating always trails behind enemy min rating

Threat LevelMin Player RatingMin Enemy RatingMax Enemy Rating
1 0 500
2 250 250 750
3 950 1000 1500
4 1250 1500 2000
5 1950 2000 2500
6 2250 2500 3000
7 2950 3000 3500
8 3250 3500 5000
9 4500 5000 5000
10 4750 5000 6000

Threat Level Calculation

Threat Level is calculated from a combined Threat Rating that references a Threat Level for each individual Event.

  • Calculate Threat Rating
    • 1000 threat for each player
    • plus EGO Rating * 2 for each player
  • Get Threat Level from the Threat Rating -> Threat Level tables for each event.

The tables for Threat Rating -> Threat Level for events are not available at this time.

Source (Trion):

We start by querying all the players in an event to generate a threat rating.

This is done by adding 1000 threat for each player and 2 threat for each point of EGO rating.

We then take this totaled number and compare to a table for each event that determines how that translates into threat level. (The number you see indicated in game.)

Depending on the type of content and the zone it occurs in, the amount of threat needed to increase threat level varies.

Additionally, the value needed for each level of threat can change between levels. Certain tiers are bigger difficulty jumps than others.
