Friday November 22, 2013 the Defiance Dev team streamed a play and Q&A session on the Trion Worlds Twitch channel.
In this stream dahanese and OverloadUT are joined by Trick Dempsey and play on a private test server with the QA team fighting a new major arkfall.
The Warmaster is the big boss introduced in Arkbreaker.
When you have defeated Dark Matter and have gotten an Ark Spike you can go to these arkfall impact windows that exist in the world. Plant your ark spike and bring down a module from the arks that are still in space. When you defeat the enemies inside you crack it open like an egg and go inside and fight enemies inside.
If you go to a larger clearing which is a major impact site there are 4 Ark Spike locations and if you place something in all 4. When you fight the massive battle thats outside you go into an interior that has the Volge Warmaster inside of it. He will fight with balance that 17 players could take but recommended 22. He is an enemy inside of an arena that is specifically designed that he can engage as many enemies at once. He has a bunch of crowd control based attacks and summon his adds and do all the things that make it tough to fight a big monster.
He's got 2 or 3 hit locations on his arms which has armor that can be blown off. He has a couple of spots on his back which can break. You can see the orange under them which are weakspots. When he is holding on with one arm you can do enough damage and knock him down into a stun state.
This boss does a unique thing that other bosses don't do, he's targeting multiple players at once and sending shots off in different directions. He is aware of positioning of people inside of the room. Previous bosses analyse people around him individually.
In the last 25% of health his difficulty increases.
Arkbreaker Stash for DLC owners, with spikes stims a few nice goodies and a random volge weapon as well as a Volge Engineer outfit.
What we've been trying to do is make sure there is a new set of weapons that can be dropped inside of arkfalls, not only Volge weapons but also optimised versions of previously existing weapons.
Whats up with the defensive perk stacks?
The patch that went in today actually has the damage reduction stacking that we discussed before. The most effective damage buff will be applied from each of weapons, shields and perks.
E.g. if you have Rearguard and you are being shot, and are reloading your gun with a machinist perk you will be getting rearguard and machinist applied to you, but the moment your shield pops it will just be your machinist and thick skinned rather than machinist, thick skinned and rearguard which would make you almost invincible and with certain other tricks totally invincible. Total damage resistance 76% for 3 seconds at a time.
Perks for long time players?
With Arkbreaker we put in daily and weekly rewards, which is the easiest to hit. People who are early adopters, and have purchased each of the DLCs will get more of each everyday.
We have looked at other recurring benefits that we could put in, but that is still the easiest method to deliver it.
Infected sieges to have legendary reward
I just added them, it won't be in todays patch it will be in DLC 2.
Menu / Chat Fixes
Just talking with the UI programmer/designer. The UI fixes there are a bunch of those. Chat fixes a little bit later, we have a bunch of voice chat fixes and stability that I believe are in DLC 2. Text chat is going to take a little more time as we want them to be better.
Alpha Server
We are working on our Alpha Server, it isn't ready yet. Something funny happened on Alpha so it's going to be delayed for a dayor more.
Conflict Zone Keys
In DLC 2 people are going to receive the same amount of keys as long as they have contributed significantly to the event, whether they are the leader on the points or not. What makes it appear that you get fewer keys in a group, if you do it solo you were definitely the frontrunner and got the bonus key or bonus keys (defending on the size of the conflict site), you looked like you got a penalty because you didn't land in first place. Now anyone in first or last place will now get the same currency and key rewards.
Rep vendor gear missing blue rolls
We have to go and update those still.
Weappn experience in arenas
Yes that is also inside of DLC 2, it was suprising complicated to update.
Paradise Territory and Echelon contracts
We decided to focus on the three primaries, because the paradise faction rewards are not up to quality for a full feature. Same is true for Echelon as it borrows heavily on other vendors. Then we will update Paradise and Echelon at a future time.
Another thing I really want to get in there is putting reputation on to the rewards for completing battlegrounds but we need to do some behind the scenes updates to make that function.
Weapons with no nano-effects
Clustershot never had a nano-effects, anything that fires a projectile doesn't support nano-effects fully. With some of our earlier patches we started pulling some of them off when we discovered the root cause. Many of those haven't been dropping for a while. They are still viable guns they just can't roll nano procs. Because of the update we did to Volge rifles we can start adding them back in the future.
Clan Alliances
We are not currently discussing clan alliances, the improvements we made were that being a member of a clan provides concrete benefits.
PvP changes
We have done some fixes to queuing, so that the quick match queue totally works like it should.

Mastery 8% dmg on next shot after kill, doesn't work with bullets but does work with projectiles or melee kill
we just started looking at that, we also had a similar problem with the last shot in clip outlaw synergy which is now fixed in DLC 2.
Can we get a message with who you are rezzed by
Mostly we didn't want to fill peoples chat logs with tons of spam, we tried to be pretty sparse with the constantly up UI as most players are playing on a controller and are using voice chat instead of text chat. We might be able to add it as an option, a the same time we don't want to add something that gives you more spam but it might be a useful message to see who got credit for rezzing you.
Will older arkfalls have updated difficulty and loot tables?
Dark Matter Arkfall is clearly the longest of them and the goal is to compensate you with time and performance. We are going to be altering the difficulty of some of those encounters with a future update and we will be updating the loot tables to match. We are working on another feature right now the timeline on that is up in the area.
Permanent way to get T4 mods
They are available on the game store, they can be dropped inside of weapon kits or the full synergy mod hordes, we are going to leave those around for a little while they are still on sale right now. They will be available for a limited time and shortly after we will provide a way to get them again.
Rewind content availability
You can queue up to play the 3 instances inside the episodic content, will available when DLC 2 is released. Other missions later.
Gain weapon skill even when a weapon is mastered
Not in DLC 2, but we are totally addressing that.
Co-op story missions rewards in open world
You have to be on the same quest to be rewarded for it.
Storyline replay only available for private instanced missions?
The storyline mission on demand is available here, but when we do the full replay it will have the entire questline available we have a little behind the scenes work to do.
Cutscenes in groups
The decision is made on a cutscene basis, it will always have your character as the focus of the scene. Depending on the scene you will see your party. All of the ones that were formerly solo missions don't have the slots for the groups characters.
Unique Weapons
The Castithan Springer is the least time intensive of our new unique weapons because that is a variant on an existing weapon, we are also creating new skins and models and that is coming in with upcoming DLCs.
Language
It's pretty difficult to read subtitles in a firefight, from a lore perspective the bay area is focused on English.
